ADB gives loan to Indonesia 5 million dollar for Clean Energy

Asian Development Bank (ADB) gives loan 5 million dollar in four to five year, for energy development in Indonesia. “In ADB, energy sector is fundamental sector, because plan of 4-5 year to come, there will be aid about 5 milion dollar” say the Country Director ADB Steven R. Tabor, in signing of Mutual of Understanding (MOU) with the Indonesia Minister of Energy Sudirman Said, in Jakarta.

Steven submits, though the loan felt very big for ADB, the nominal is too little for Indonesia. Steven tell, the loan have the character of long-range, with good interest and grace period.. 

“The loan is for multi purpose. First, assisting Indonesia to the PLN (Indonesia Electricity company) to improve the transmission and distribution of electricity” say Steven. “Then second,, the loan destined to support the clean project energy, one of them is development of earth gas in region of east Indonesia. Third, loan from ADB also will be used for the development of hydropower. Last, loan ADB is also used to assist the government to reform energy policy, like to support for the development of geothermal and solar energy. 

Besides loan which in character concession, Steven also submit the ADB will give free loan to Indonesia government, for example in program of Centre of Excellence ( COE). We can not mention the value. But that depended to how many required. ADB by itself will invest million dollar for some years, to assist the COE” say Steven.

Indonesia Minister of Energy, Sudirman Said and Country Director Asian Development Bank ( ADB) Steven R. Tabor sign the Mutual of Understanding (MOU) concerning development Center to Research into and Technological of Clean Energy in Indonesia, or Centre of Excellence ( COE), on this day.

In news conference after signatory MOU, Sudirman submits this development of COE represent one serious support from international institution. According to Sudirman, this represent the good step, because strategic partner can be developed by international partner. 

“Signing MOU for the development of this COE play a part important because supporting governmental effort reach the use of clean energy goals till 25 percent in year 2025,”say Sudirman. For the development of energy sector is inclusive of this clean energy program, Indonesia will get loan from ADB.

Sudirman hope the partner with ADB, can become the supportr for international community to develop the clean energy. “Because expectation for Indonesia to become the leader in the case of clean energy and renewable energy,” say Sudirman. Targeted, in three year to come, Bali become the first province applying clean energy. First phase to be conducted by change power station in Denpasar with the clean energy source, like geothermal.
